SPECIALLY DEVELOPED SHIPPING BOXES
We have developed special clematis shipping boxes over the years to help provide a safe journey for your order.
We ship our plants in a container, carefully selected and tested by us, that will save you money on shipping costs while ensuring your clematis is large enough to plant directly in the garden and survive. Our extra long 4 in. x 9.5 in. pots facilitate the development of strong root systems that will give your clematis the best chance to succeed. The most common reason for a failed clematis plant in the garden is a plant that does not have a large enough root system.
OUR PROMISE
The plants we deliver to you are determined to be healthy and true to name at the time of delivery. If your plant is damaged or unhealthy, you must contact us within 5 days of receipt of your order so that we can address the problem. If your plants arrive healthy we are not responsible for the plants once you take possession of them. If your plant has been planted, is doing well and suddenly has problems, we cannot be responsible for the cultural conditions and gardening practices that may have caused a problem but will be more than happy to help by offering advice.
SHIPPING CHARGES
Each order's shipping cost includes a $5.00 handling fee. Each box fits up to two plants, so it is more cost effective to order an even amount of plants. The total shipping cost for 2 plants is virtually the same as for shipping 1 plant and 4 plants only slightly higher than 3. Shipping charges may be adjusted. Chalk Hill will confirm any changes before the order is processed via email. We ship ground transportation, unless customer requests other. Sales tax applies to orders shipped within California.

IMPORTANT HANDLING INFORMATION
(1) PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN PULLING A POT FROM ITS SHIPPING BOX. Keep in mind that plants are not all equal in size, root development and growth rate. Each variety may vary. For spring and fall shipping we prune the plants hard. This hard pruning helps promote the development of more stems from the base of the plant.
(2) IF DAMAGE OCCURS TO FRAGILE STEMS DURING SHIPPING, just prune below the damaged area. This is rarely fatal or serious. Initially, do not place to much emphasis on the top growth. Your clematis has growth nodes under the soil and will start to grow once its roots settle in the ground. However, please remember that clematis usually spend most of the first year establishing their roots. The second year expect moderate growth and flowering. The third year, look out and enjoy -- you'll have a full size specimen!
